Othersphere Spoilers

* She ends up with Caleb. As an experienced reader, I saw this coming.

** London and Amaris are in love with each other so London is the most vehement at getting her back. London had a crush on Dez but I was actually surprised when London and Amaris became a couple. I'm glad London was able to find someone she could be with.

*** Orgoli is Dez's biological father. Her biological mother hid her from Orgoli because he tended to eat all of his children. It's what made him so powerful.

Magic Rises Spoilers

* Hugh is actually the Lord of the castle where they are staying to protect Desandra, the werewolf pregnant with two children who have different fathers. Instead of it being a trap for the Pack, it was a trap for Kate. Hugh knew who she was and he wanted to get her alone.

** They are weredolphins, not something that any of them have seen before.

*** Doolittle is trying to discover what the second baby is and is almost killed. He is saved by Kate and Hugh and is now paralyzed from the waist down.

**** Curran is pretending to be interested in Lorelei because she is trying to kill Kate. This is what the weredolphin told Curran and Saiman. Curran couldn't tell Kate because she can't lie well. He did it to save her life even if it might cost him their relationship.

***** Aunt B is killed saving the pack. She's one of my favorite characters so I'm extremely sad over this. Kate also discovers how to create blood armor.

Cast in Chaos Spoilers

* The Devourer is the fifth part of the elements. It was what kept them together. Kaylin gives her true name to the elements and to the Devourer. Using her, they are able to get the Devourer into the Garden for Evanton and the future Keepers to watch over. The Devourer didn't actually know what it was doing. It saw the words in the ancient language and it was lost. It was always searching for something and in the end it discovered it was searching for the other elements.

** Severn tells Kaylin why he loves her and what he loves about her. This grounds her to herself so she doesn't become lost.

Cast in Courtlight Spoilers

* The High Halls sit on top of this shadow place. A shadow creature has the Lord of the Green's name and he is trying to shed himself of his name so he can no longer be controlled by it. The High Lord would try to pass the power to his younger son, the Lord of the West March but he would not have been able to hold the power. Only the Lord of the Green could and with Kaylin's help, he his healed and he can accept the power from his father. His sister becomes the Consort, the one who chooses the names for all Barrani children.

** Kaylin and Severn go to a tower where they are tested. Severn is forced to repeat what he did to Steffi and Jade and Kaylin watches. Kaylin has tests of her own and in the end they emerge from the Tower and are named Lords.

Cast in Shadow Spoilers

* Severn murdered the two children they had taken in while they were in the fiefs. Severn did this to protect Kaylin so she could not be used by the Outcaste Dragon. He is the only Dragon that has ever been outcaste. We learn later why he eventually became one. If the two children had been marked and killed, Kaylin could be used by the Outcaste.

** Severn came to the Hawklord's office and Kaylin attacks him on sight. She doesn't really try to kill him but later, when he is in the Foundling hall, she actually does try to kill him because she is afraid that he would kill the children. Children are precious to Kaylin and she is very protective of any child.

Dark Secrets: Legacy of Lies and Don't Tell Spoilers

Legacy of Lies

* Megan and Matt are reincarnations of Megan's grandmother's dead sister and husband. In the past, Matt and Megan were in love. Now in the present they are in love again and together. It just feels a little too weird since they are technically cousins through marriage.

Don't Tell

* It actually turns out that the person who was following her was Nora. Nora has always been a bit special and over the years it has gotten worse.

** This is actually not true at all. Holly hates Lauren and this is the reason why she tries to have Nora and Lauren killed in the boathouse.

*** It turns out that Holly killed Lauren's mother and Nora saw it happen. Nora is now terrified of the water because she believes that Lauren's mom's ghost is haunting the water. Holly told Nora repeatedly not which is why the book it titled "Don't Tell." It turns out that Lauren's mom had a miscarriage at the same time Jule gave birth. Jule couldn't afford a third child so she gave Lauren to her best friend, Lauren's mom. They would visit every year and Lauren's mom would send Jule money every month. Nora and Lauren get trapped in the boathouse at the end of the book and Jule's neighbor sets it on fire. In order to get Holly to confess, they make her believe that Nora was killed. Holly ends up confessing and she is arrested.

Magic Bleeds Spoilers

* We learn later that he was challenged by two bears. The Curran POV for the naked dinner is now available here.

** The myth revolves around a man from ancient times called Erra. He has seven creatures that he can pilot. They're basically undead mages. He goes before armies and spreads plagues like wildfire. He drives animals insane and the flee. Basically he's a bad dude. But Erra isn't a he in this story. Erra is a she.

*** Erra is her aunt, Roland's older sister.

**** Saiman decides to parade Kate in front of Curran. Curran wanted to kill him right then and there but since the People were in the room, he couldn't without starting a war. When Kate and Saiman leave, Curran chases after them in a warrior form. Saiman almost runs Kate over at her apartment as he's fleeing Curran's wrath. Kate lures Curran into her apartment through her open window and they have a long and much needed talk. And then, of course, they have sex.

Magic Burns Spoilers

* Andrea is a Beastkin. Her father was an animalwere. He could transform into a human shape but he was still really dumb. It's very rare for an animalwere to be fertile but Andrea's father was. He mated with Andrea's mom and she became pregnant. Most beastkin are killed on sight by shapeshifters because they are born beast, meaning that their beast is in control. It's an archaic idea but Andrea has kept it quiet. She joined the Order to become a knight so she could pretend she wasn't a shapeshifter. A shapeshifter cannot be part of the Order because the Order focuses on keeping the peace among humans. Andrea hides her status extremely well. Ted does think something is off about her which is why she has been unable to gain her Master at Arms status.

** I love the soup scene. We learn from Aunt B that food is a very big deal for shapeshifters. By giving Kate food, Curran is showing he can take care of her. It's part of the beginning of the mating ritual.

Ending:
Morrigan

The big battle between the Formorians and the Pack is pretty awesome. Unfortunately, Bran is killed. Kate, so full of magic from the flare, cries and the magic in her tears actually produce flowers. Once the battle is over, Morrigan takes Red as her new hound. Red is an ass who only cares for power.  When he chooses Morrigan over Julie, Julie's heart breaks. Kate takes some time off and drives to Savannah with Julie. Because of Julie's unique talent, she puts Julie in a boarding school that will help her get a good education and develop her power even more.

The epilogue shows Kate coming home to find Curran in her apartment reading the Princess Bride and he had put on a pot of coffee. This is something Kate had told him earlier that she wanted but could never have. Husbands are not something Kate can have. People she loved can be used against her if Roland found her. The scene is referenced in Magic Strikes but more about that later.

That Fault in Our Stars Spoilers

We find out in Amsterdam, after the incredibly romantic kiss in the Anne Frank museum and after they both lose their virginity, that Augustus' cancer is back and it's everywhere. He had been hiding it from Hazel because he didn't want to ruin their trip. He's going to die. His cancer is the kind that has an 80% chance of survival whereas Hazel has a 0% chance. Augustus was supposed to outlive Hazel and it never occurred to her, or me for that matter, that she would outlive him.

I have never met someone going through chemo or been close to anyone with cancer. I only know things about how it makes you feel from things like Grey's Anatomy and from what others have said. I think Green did a wonderful job at describing late stage Augustus. There is no glory in cancer or chemo. Bone cancer is painful and he is on painkillers. His body starts to fail him. I honestly couldn't stop crying. Hazel is with him almost constantly. It gets to a point where her parents try to force her to take some time away from him.

The gas station scene was awful. His pack of cigarettes got taken away so he tried to get another one by driving himself to the gas station. By this point he's already in a wheelchair and he's already lost some control over his body. He can't even keep food down. He calls Hazel in the middle of the night and asks for her help. His G-tube is infected and he needs a hospital. Hazel gets there and calls 911. While they are waiting Augustus has a breakdown. This line made me cry and can still bring tears to my eyes:

"I hate myself I hate myself I hate this I hate this I disgust myself I hate it I hate it I hate it just let me fucking die."

Augustus, the wonderful Augustus who looked at life and wanted to live, was a pitiful boy who was crying and dying. This boy who was so full of life, now dying. It's heartbreaking and cruel and absolutely wonderful written.

The Last Good Day was amazing. Augustus has Hazel and Isaac prepare eulogies. Augustus wants to attend his own funeral and he does. Isaac's eulogy is full of humor and Hazel's is full of love. "You gave me a forever within the numbered days, and I'm grateful."

The rest of the book is full of Hazel mourning Augustus. She loves him. It's a love that she never thought she could have because she is dying, living on borrowed time. Van Houten actually goes to Augustus' funeral and then confront Hazel later. She no longer cares about him. She cherishes the book he wrote but the author is an ass.

The ending was written wonderfully full of great quotes. Augustus sent Van Houten a letter and his ex-assistant sent it to Hazel after Hazel figured out where the missing pages from his journal went. It was a great way to end the book.
